Kate’s knowledge, reputation and approachability has made her a leading practitioner in the areas of workers’ compensation and general civil litigation in the Northern Territory.

Kate has acted on behalf of self-insurers, insurers, employers, claim managers and the Nominal Insurer of the Northern Territory, providing high level advice and representation on liability, quantum, risk, strategy and recovery.

Kate thrives on providing clear, practical advice that carefully balances a client’s obligations with the best case outcome, no matter the size or complexity of the matter at hand.

Kate’s intricate knowledge of the Return to Work Act (NT) enables her to work in a high-volume environment across a wide range of insurance matters, having managed a large number of defended and recovery files in the Work Health and Supreme Courts of the Northern Territory.

In addition to her insurance practice, Kate also has extensive experience in providing defendant advice and representation in medical negligence claims as well as disputed estate matters, general insurance and civil litigation disputes or recoveries.

Kate acts in the Local and Supreme Courts of the Northern Territory and frequently appears in pre-trial conferences, mediations and as counsel in interlocutory applications.

Experience

  • Provides advice and representation to insurers, employers and self-insurers on all aspects of the workers’ compensation scheme, including QBE, CGU, GIO, Allianz, EML, Nominal Insurer and the Northern Territory of Australia.
  • Regularly appears in the Work Health Court and Supreme Court of the Northern Territory as well as attending mediations and settlement conferences for employers and insurers.
  • Holds frequent training sessions with clients, having provided training on all major sections and amendments to the Return to Work Act (NT). Has also presented on a range of topics at the Northern Territory Insurance Conference and for the Young Insurance Professionals (YIPS) (NT).
  • Has acted for both public and private hospital clients in respect of civil claims for damages alleging medical negligence and coronial inquests.
  • Provided advice and representation to an insurer client on general insurance third-party recoveries.
