Todd is a Special Counsel in Hall & Wilcox’s Tax team, practising predominantly in taxation advisory and disputes, with broader experience in charity law, trust law, group succession planning and general commercial matters.
Todd’s work includes tax planning and structuring for high wealth individuals and family groups, managing complex early-stage and litigated taxation disputes, advising on tax-effective succession planning and estate administration, and establishing and advising not-for-profit entities. His key areas of practice include income tax, CGT and superannuation matters, with experience in GST, duty, land tax and payroll tax.
Todd’s clients are predominantly high net-worth individuals and family groups, mid-market groups and charities and not-for-profits.
Experience
- Advising on the taxation of trusts, including in respect of their amendment or vesting, and the application of various integrity rules (sections 99B, 100A, 100AA and 100AB).
- Advising high net worth individuals and family groups on their family succession plan, international structuring and relocation, and tax-effective administration of cross-border deceased estates.
- Managing complex taxation disputes with federal and state taxation authorities, with disputed liabilities ranging up to $500 million.
- Engaging with federal and state taxation authorities with respect to voluntary disclosures of non-compliance with various tax and duty regimes.
- Establishing and advising significant private and public charitable organisations.
- Advising high net worth individuals and families regarding tax-effective structured philanthropy.
- Advising substantial Australian and offshore employers on their employment taxes and superannuation obligations, and assisting with the rectification of large-scale wage and superannuation underpayments.
- Advising leading worker entitlement funds on various regulatory and taxation matters.
- Acting for mid-market businesses in relation to business sales, mergers, acquisitions and group restructures, and advising on available income tax, GST and duty rollovers and concessions.
