
Laura is an experienced litigator, with extensive experience in insurance litigation and personal injury claims. Currently, she is assisting both Government and private clients across a broad range of personal injury and recovery claims.
She graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours by Thesis and Coursework) / Bachelor of Arts in 2012 and was admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria in 2014 after completing the Transport Accident Commission’s graduate program with a focus on catastrophically injured claims, recoveries and interstate common law.
She also completed an APA Accredited Psychology degree, which provides her with a unique perspective on the issues faced in psychiatric claims, including those arising from complex physical trauma involving acquired brain injuries. She has continued this interest in medicine, and more recently completed a refresher in the AMA Guides for the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment.
In 2023, she was named a finalist at the Women in Law Awards as Senior Associate of the Year, a recognition that reflects her dedication to the profession and clients.
Laura is personable and reliable. She has a varied practice which encompasses a range of clients and subject matter, which is testament to her efficiency and practice management skills.
Experience
- Acting for both Government and private insurers in defending personal injury claims and historical sexual abuse claims.
- Advised on and negotiated settlement in contentious personal injury claims, with a focus on psychiatric injuries arising from bullying or management action.
- Advising clients on the nuances of the statutory insurance schemes, with a particular emphasis on the TAC and VWA overlap and recoveries.
- Appearing in the Magistrates’ Court, County Court of Victoria and Supreme Court of Victoria.
- Completed training in the implementation of the AMA Guides for the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment (2013 and 2024).
- Delivering presentations to clients and stakeholders on various topics, such as in statutory insurance and quantum issues.
- Successfully acting for the Defendant in Munday v Court [2013] VSCA 279, Douglas-Watson v St John of God [2022] VMC 13; Jonathan Lim v Iconic Hotels [2022] VMC 21.
- Published the following paper ‘The Property of Excised Tissue from Living Donors’ (Monash Univeristy, 2012).
