Eli is a commercial lawyer and advises in the technology, media and entertainment sectors, particularly in relation to intellectual property, IT, privacy, cybersecurity and data management, AdTech, production, content and talent, advertising and publishing laws and competition and consumer regulation.
He has acted on a wide range of commercial, contentious and regulatory matters, including for major financial institutions, software and technology providers, airports, advertisers, media and news organisations, music and entertainment companies, major FMCG retailers and eCommerce businesses. With experience in-house, he has a deep understanding of internal pressures, processes and priorities.
He is the editor of the Communications Law Bulletin and a Board member of the Communications and Media Law Association (CAMLA). Eli also sits on the editorial board of LexisNexis and has contributed to its consumer law practical guidance publication. He also sits on the Board of a charity that provides crisis accommodation and emergency support services to people throughout Sydney.
Eli holds a Master of Laws (with excellence) from UNSW, dual-specialising in Media & Technology Law and Innovation Law. He was awarded the prize for best performing postgraduate student across all postgraduate programs at the law school.
In 2024, Australasian Lawyer named Eli one of Australia’s most influential lawyers. He is a regular speaker at industry events including LegalWise’s Entertainment Law Conference, ALM’s General Counsel Summit, Lawyer’s Weekly’s Corporate Counsel Summit and events hosted by the Copyright Society and CAMLA.

Acting for Paramount on the successful launch, distribution and operation in Australia of Paramount+, including the negotiation and drafting of key distribution agreements with each of Paramount+’s local distributors and advising on the Australian aspects of global distribution agreements with major global distributors.
Acting for one of the world’s largest FMCG retailers in relation to a long-running consumer and contractual dispute with a major customer.

Acting for a variety of print media organisations on copyright, privacy and defamation claims.
Acting for APRA AMCOS in connection with music licensing and copyright infringement claims.
Acting for one of the world’s largest retailers on its compliance with the Australian Consumer Law, including advice on a variety of specific offers as well as internal training for senior staff.
Advising a major grocery company in Australia in connection with the ACCC’s Grocery Code of Conduct.
Advising on and appearing on behalf of a variety of media and technology companies in connection with law reform inquiries, including in relation to data privacy, privacy tort, competition, consumer, copyright, defamation, digital platforms, and AdTech.
Acting for and against a variety of copyright collecting societies, including in the federal courts and the Copyright Tribunal on matters ranging from copyright infringement claims to references of proposed licensing schemes for variation or confirmation.
Acting for a global company on a ransomware attack from cybersecurity, privacy, employment and contractual perspectives.
