Hall & Wilcox reaffirms commitment to the Uluru Statement from the Heart and supports the Yes campaign for a First Nations Voice
Be a Voice for Generations this National Reconciliation Week!
Hall & Wilcox gratefully accepts the invitation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to work together to achieve reconciliation in Australia. We reaffirm our commitment to the implementation of the Uluru Statement from the Heart in full. We are therefore proud to support the Yes campaign in the upcoming referendum to make a constitutionally enshrined First Nations Voice a reality.
Hall & Wilcox is a national law firm with over 1000 people. We recognise and respect the different perspectives on the Voice among our people and across our communities. We also acknowledge our leadership responsibility as lawyers when dealing with constitutional change. This National Reconciliation Week and in the lead up to the referendum, we are working to provide resources and opportunities for discussion on the Voice to our people, our communities and our clients; contributing to informed decision making on this very important issue.
Our RAP Champion, Partner and Head of Pro Bono & Community, Nathan Kennedy, says: ‘We celebrate and acknowledge National Reconciliation Week in this historic year as we approach the upcoming referendum. We, along with other law firms, clients and our community partners, are in a position to be strong allies in walking with First Nations peoples to make the Voice a reality. We are proud to commit our support to the Yes campaign.’
Our Managing Partner, Tony Macvean, adds: ‘We have a moral duty to make a stand on this issue. The Voice will enhance our parliamentary democracy. It has been supported by a significant majority of First Nations representatives. It works legally. A no vote would be disastrous for reconciliation in this country, and for our reputation globally. We will be actively supporting a Yes vote in the upcoming referendum.’
