Nathan is the firm’s Head of Pro Bono & Community. In this role, he is responsible for developing and managing the firm’s pro bono legal practice and community initiatives. He is the firm's Reconciliation Action Plan Champion. Within the pro bono team, he supervises a varied practice covering areas such as employment, consumer credit and debt, administrative law and human rights.

Nathan’s connections in the human rights and community legal sector have assisted him in developing a successful national pro bono and community practice at the firm with a focus on First Nations peoples, older persons, refugees and people with disabilities. Through pro bono legal assistance, volunteering and philanthropy, the pro bono and community practice enables our communities to thrive by working towards Reconciliation and equality of opportunity, providing access to justice and protecting human rights.

Nathan holds an LLM (Human Rights & Social Justice) from the University of New South Wales. He was a member of the National Committee of Australian Lawyers for Human Rights for almost 10 years, including holding the position of President for two years. He began serving on the Australian Human Rights Institute Advisory Committee in 2021.

Nathan has practical experience with United Nations human rights processes, including having presented to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child. He has almost 15 years of experience volunteering at community legal centres such as Marrickville Legal Centre and the Refugee Advice & Casework Service (RACS). He currently serves as a board member of the Great Lakes Agency for Peace and Development (GLAPD), a not-for-profit, organisation helping migrants, refugees and asylum seekers from Africa and beyond settle in Australia.

Nathan is also an experienced insurance litigator with more than 20 years’ experience advising insurers on workers’ compensation, CTP and liability claims. He has worked with a number of Australian and international insurers, brokers and self-insurers. Nathan has been recognised in The Best Lawyers in Australia in Insurance Law every year since 2020.
