Graydon Dowd has commenced his role as Chief Executive Partner at Hall & Wilcox as of 1 July 2024. Graydon succeeds Tony Macvean, who stepped down on 30 June 2024 after 17 years as Managing Partner. During his tenure, Tony led the firm’s significant growth and success, transforming Hall & Wilcox into the leading national firm it is today.

Graydon joined Hall & Wilcox as a partner in 2012. He led the firm’s commercial litigation practice until 2022, driving the growth of the practice into one of the leading dispute resolution practices in the country. Graydon played a significant role in the national expansion of the firm’s broader commercial practice and has demonstrated strategic and commercial acumen in handling high-stakes litigation matters for clients.

Emma Woolley, Chair of Hall & Wilcox, said, ‘Graydon’s appointment reflects the role he has played in the recent growth and success of the firm, and how trusted he is by colleagues and clients. He’s the perfect person to lead us on the next stage of our journey and will bring a renewed focus on building deep firm-wide client relationships.’

Emma also recognised Tony’s leadership since becoming Managing Partner in 2007.

‘Over 17 years, the firm has grown over tenfold to 145 partners and more than 1200 people across eight offices,’ Emma noted. ‘Under Tony’s leadership, Hall & Wilcox has become recognised as one of the best commercial firms in the country. We’ve done this while continuing to nurture our collaborative culture for which we are famous. We’re grateful for Tony’s leadership and commitment.’

Reflecting on his new role, Graydon shared, ‘I’m honoured to take on this role and build on our strong foundation. My focus will include building whole of firm client relationships, fostering innovation and continuing to provide opportunities for the development of our people.’

Tony will be continuing as a partner at the firm. As the firm embarks on this new chapter, its commitment to enabling clients, people and communities to thrive remains steadfast.
