Hunter Women in Insurance

A smarter way to… connect the Newcastle insurance industry.
I was at a major insurance event in Sydney, looking around a room of more than 400 people, when something struck me: just how many familiar faces from Newcastle were there.
We had all taken time out of our working days and travelled to Sydney for the same reason – to connect with our industry. I remember thinking, why are we all coming to Sydney when we have such a strong insurance community in Newcastle?
That question started a conversation.
I reached out to the committee in Sydney to explore bringing events to Newcastle. But as I spoke to more people, it quickly became clear there was an appetite for something of our own.
So, working with others across the industry, I founded Hunter Women in Insurance.
I remember thinking, 'why are we all coming to Sydney when we have such a strong insurance community in Newcastle?'

Key takeaways
- Listen and stay curious: questioning the status quo can reveal unmet needs.
- Partner to make it happen: the best ideas grow when we bring different people together.
- Solve for wider impact: smarter solutions can create value beyond the immediate task – for our clients, our people and our industries.
Creating opportunities closer to home
Today, Hunter Women in Insurance is creating opportunities for clients, colleagues and industry peers to connect closer to home, meet people outside their usual networks and build relationships that may not otherwise have formed.
For me, that’s what Smarter Law is about. It’s not only about improving the way we do our day-to-day work. It’s about listening closely enough to spot a gap, being curious about what could be better, and partnering with others to find a solution.
Hunter Women in Insurance has been embraced by the local community beyond what we initially anticipated. And the value reaches well beyond Hall & Wilcox – strengthening connections across Newcastle’s insurance industry and creating opportunities for our clients, our people and our community, today and tomorrow.
