‘I am passionate about developing great relationships with the clients I work for. I take time to get to know our clients, their business and their industry so that I can deliver a legal product for them that meets their particular needs.’

Q&A

  • I work with:
I’m a property lawyer focusing on transactional sales and acquisitions, and complex, standard and stream commercial and retail leasing.
  • Major highlights:
I’ve recently been working on the acquisition of the seed units for Australian Unity’s newly established fund holding specialist disability accommodation. It’s been a great cross-practice effort involving the Financial Services, Corporate and Health and Community, Property and Tax teams.
  • Trends in my area:
no industry has been immune to the impacts of COVID-19. The crisis has impacted sentiment across most elements of the property industry, including residential, office, industrial and retail.

In the short to medium term, the industry will be responding to the COVID-19 crisis.

At the moment, people are staying at home, which is impacting both landlords and tenants of retail and commercial spaces. Both landlords and tenants are in the midst of understanding the impact of COVID-19 on their businesses, and, as a consequence, their obligations and liability under the Regulations implemented across each state and territory to give effect to the National Cabinet Mandatory Code of Conduct for SME Commercial Leasing Principles during COVID-19.

In the commercial leasing space, with more and more businesses having their people work from home during the pandemic, I expect businesses will reassess how they use office space.

  • I predict the next big thing will be:

I consider it likely that in the medium term, growth in the industry will be driven by government initiatives and policy to ensure businesses have time to recover from the effects of the pandemic.

I also expect there to be new and exciting reimaginings of how we use retail and commercial space in light of the pandemic. I expect more interest in initiatives like the WELL ratings.

  • My proudest achievement:
in my legal career, making partner at Hall & Wilcox.
  • Outside work, you'll find me:
I love travelling to new places and learning about their culture through food. Otherwise, I enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends.
  • If I wasn't a lawyer, I would be:
I would have loved to be an investigative journalist.
