‘I love being a trusted advisor to clients and developing the next generation of lawyers through mentorship.’

Q&A

I work with: international and domestic insurers, intermediaries and brokers on complex, multi-party, public liability and property damage claims. I advise on policy interpretation, coverage disputes, dual insurance claims and recoveries. I also act for large companies and local councils on a range of liability claims and disputes.

Major highlights: I have advised on appeals in superior courts and have negotiated settlements in high-value claims (in excess of $10 million). It is the diversity of my practice (claims in all jurisdictions and other States) which makes my role so fulfilling.

Trends in my area: Litigation has changed so much since I started practicing in 2004. With the introduction of more virtual advocacy opportunities (such as online courts), participants in litigation should see a shift towards more transparency in the conduct of proceedings.

I predict the next big thing will be: Greater use of virtual advocacy and technologies to streamline court proceedings.

My proudest achievement: In addition to becoming a partner at Hall & Wilcox, completing a Master of Laws while working and having young children was very rewarding. As a result, I am an advocate for continuous education and development of our lawyers.

Outside work, you’ll find me: Being with my family and supporting my children. I have also loved dance since I was young and am still attending classes and competing. It has given me confidence and grace.

If I wasn’t a lawyer, I would be: A psychologist. I am passionate about how people think, feel, behave and learn.

Lessons I learnt over the past year: Lawyers must be agile and evolve always.
