Talking Tax - Issue 173

This week in Talking Tax we take a look at draft legislation aimed at tightening the taxation of income received by minors from testamentary trusts and a draft ruling on the commercial debt forgiveness rules exception for love and affection. We also summarise the Federal Court’s decision on the disclosure of a taxpayer’s ‘protected information’ in connection with a highly publicised defamation case brought against the Commissioner of Taxation, for statements the Commissioner (personally) made about the taxpayer in a public forum.
